This richly illustrated French edition of Herodotus is aimed at children, although the back cover offers a warning that the occasional violence might shock those under ten. It presents itself as an adaptation of Herodotus’ text rather than a retelling, goes through the histories book by book, and provides additional historical information in little boxes here and there. The text is accompanied not by images taken from ancient art but by full color illustrations that assist readers in envisioning the story – while maps remind us that this is history.
