This book is perfect for reluctant readers. It is a “choose your own adventure” style book that bounces the reader around mythological Greece through a series of questions posed as challenges. For example, readers are told that they need to find the golden fleece, and they are given a choice of three locations on a map, Troy, Knossos, and Colchis. There is only one main narrative, though, and readers are sent back to the previous page when they guess wrong, with some additional facts about each place. That takes away the pressure of making the wrong choice, which always made “choose” books like this stressful for me. Minotaur’s Maze mixes in a good collection of historical facts about Athens and Sparta and even some simple math problems! For example, readers are told to turn a dial the same number of times as Hercules’ labors, minus the numbers of eyes that a cyclops has. There are clues for readers who aren’t up on their mythology facts, and the challenge makes the mythology extra memorable. It’s a great way to introduce readers between the ages of 8 and 12 to mythology and inspire them to look up more facts about ancient Greece. – Krishni Burns
