Mary Pope Osborne, the author of the beloved Magic Tree House series, details daily life in ancient Pompeii in Pompeii: Lost and Found.  The book spends several pages outlining the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 and the archeological study of the ruined city.  The remainder of the book covers what we now know about the ancient city of Pompeii based on evidence from frescoes, graffiti, petrified bread, and of course, the plaster casts of those killed by the eruption. This picture book is beautifully illustrated in a fresco-style, with side panels of ancient artifacts representing the ancient marketplace, theater, arena, temples, etc.  It is a nice introduction to life in a Roman city, as well as the work of archeologists. This book is recommended from readers aged three and older. -- Sarah Klitenic Wear
