The counterpart to this series’ excellent board book inspired by the Odyssey. In spite of its title, this cute little board book does NOT try to retell all 15,693 lines of the Iliad in is twelve cardboard pages. Instead, it’s a “Greek Mythology Primer” that introduces readers to each of the twelve gods of the ancient Pantheon. Text is minimal, but it will accustom listeners to the gods’ names and jobs. Interestingly, Demeter becomes the goddess of food in this version (fair) and she is paired with Dionysus, the god of Drink (true). The illustrations are excellent; colorful and engaging, with a rainbow of different skin colors and bold pallets. Most of the gods’ attributes are present, which gives readers and listeners a lot to talk about on the page. For example, Apollo and Artemis are the god of the sun and moon goddess, but Apollo is playing the lyre and Artemis is shooting an arrow. As young listeners start having questions, this primer makes a lot of room for storytelling. -- Krishni Burns
